The Malgre-Tout museum in Treignes (Belgium), built in a former power plant in the 1920s, has permanent collections on regional archaeology and the evolution of man and his techniques in prehistory.
The exhibition presents a selection of objects illustrating the hybrid and fantastic beings created by the human mind from prehistoric times to the ancient world around the Mediterranean (Mesopotamia, Egypt, Rome, the Celtic world), to personify a deity or a creature linked to the gods, or perhaps something else. Sphinxes and sphinges, Anubis, Horus, Bastet, Pazuzu, the Minotaur, mermaids, Cerberus, Medusa, Pegasus…
Many of these “sacred monsters” still exist in our imagination and in pop culture. But who are they? Why does Man almost systematically represent them by mixing animals and humans? The exhibition invites you on a journey to the land of ancient fantasy!
FRANK’s exhibition display cases and museum showcase solutions bring stories to life!
